Sharanya Gururajan received her law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, Urbana-Champaign, IL, Cum Laude. Sharanya has represented numerous debtors and creditors in bankruptcy court along with representing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees on routine and contested matters involving the liquidation of a bankruptcy estate.  She also represents individuals and corporations with respect to the workout of their financial affairs and assists in negotiations of forbearance agreements, offers and compromise, long term repayment plans and other loss mitigation options, including negotiation of loans owed to the Small Business Administration (“SBA”).
Sharanya has represented numerous homeowners in foreclosure court including litigating affirmative defenses on behalf of the borrower/homeowner along with assisting in completion and negotiation of loan modifications and other loss mitigation options offered under the Making Home Affordable Act. Sharanya also represents executors and administrators in routine and contested probate matters along with representing clients with respect to their estate planning needs. 

Sharanya is the co-chair of the Lake County Bar Association’s Debtor Creditor Right’s Committee and is instrumental in organizing monthly meetings and an Annual Seminar on topics related to debtor/creditor law. Sharanya has spoken on topics related to fraudulent conveyances and collection mechanisms utilized by the SBA and the United States Treasury in collection of delinquent debt owed to the federal government. Sharanya co-authored an article for the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal entitled “An Overview of the Form 22 Vehicle Operation Expense: Allowance or Cap on Actual Expense” and contributed to the research and drafting of an article for the Lake County Docket entitled “Fundamentals of Illinois Mortgage Foreclosure Defense”. 

Ms. Gururajan  is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the U.S. Bankruptcy and U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois. 

 In addition to the practice of law, Sharanya and her husband are professional singers who enjoy performing Indian “Bollywood” songs at fundraisers, weddings and other celebratory events across the Chicagoland area.
